Gardening in Los Angeles can be tricky but can be done. A few things I have learned….

Gardening in Los Angeles. “City Life” . It is possible! Even if you live in a apartment you can grow herbs like basil, chives, parsley and cilantro in your window seal or even on your balcony. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a yard to grow a small garden but lets be real, even if you have a “yard’ in Los Angeles it’s most likely not very big. In my garden this summer the two vegetables besides all my herbs and of course always jalapeños that I decided to grow were green bell peppers and tomatoes. When planting tomatoes they need to be spaced about 36" inches apart with full sun 6 + Hours and green bell peppers need to be spaced 18-24’’ inches apart with full sun 6 + Hour. If you don’t space them enough apart they won’t produce like they should because one of the plants will absorb all the nutrients that is in the ground from the other. I learned this the hard way gardening the first time and only had my tomatoes grow and my bell peppers didn’t produce but just one small bell pepper. Same goes for herbs if your growing them in a garden instead of individual pots. Most herbs need to be spaced 8-14 inches apart.
